Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is the current and fifth president of Namibia. She made history as the first woman to hold this office in Namibia. Prior to her presidency, Nandi-Ndaitwah held the position of vice president from February 2024 until her inauguration, succeeding Nangolo Mbumba. She also previously served as Namibia’s deputy prime minister from 2015 to 2024 and was the minister of international relations and cooperation from 2012 to 2024. Throughout her career, she has played a key role in shaping Namibia’s foreign policy and advocating for gender equality in leadership. Beyond politics, Nandi-Ndaitwah is a dedicated advocate for women’s empowerment and youth development. She has worked extensively on initiatives aimed at improving education and social welfare programs across Namibia. An influential figure in the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) since her teenage years, she was elected as the party’s vice president in 2017, becoming the first woman to hold the position. In addition to her political work, she is passionate about environmental conservation, having previously served as Namibia’s minister of environment and tourism. Nandi-Ndaitwah is married to Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah and a mother to three sons, balancing her responsibilities as a leader with her commitment to family life.
