Oumou Sangaré is an internationally acclaimed Malian singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and women’s rights advocate widely known as the “Songbird of Wassoulou.” Born in Bamako, she rose from a challenging childhood to become one of Africa’s most respected musical voices, using her music to address social issues such as women’s rights, gender equality, and social justice. Her debut album Moussoulou (“Women”) became a major success across West Africa, establishing her as a powerful voice for women’s empowerment. Over the years, she has won numerous international recognitions including a Grammy Award and has also served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
