Tribute

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been influenced by First Lady Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi's initiatives against gender-based violence, but her most profound protection happens where she's raising her five children to understand respect, consent, and the sacred worth of every human. We honour the national policies and evening conversations that share the same goal – creating safety for vulnerable hearts. The way she demonstrates that true power lies in how we treat those who depend on us most is not lost on us.

Profile

Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi is the First Lady of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a dedicated advocate for women’s empowerment. Since assuming the role in 2019, she has led initiatives focused on health, education, and gender equality through the Fondation Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi (FDNT). Under her leadership, the foundation launched the ‘Excellentia’ program, which awards scholarships to outstanding students, and actively fights against gender-based violence. She has also been recognized globally, serving as a United Nations Global Champion for the prevention of sexual violence in conflict and a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). As a mother of five, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi balances her advocacy with family life. She is deeply committed to fostering opportunities for women and young girls in the DRC and beyond. Her work reflects a strong belief in education, financial autonomy for women, and a future where gender equality is a reality.
