Proscovia Nabbanja

Proscovia Nabbanja, a Ugandan geologist and corporate executive, assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda National Oil Company on October 1, 2019. Prior to this, she served as the Acting CEO from August 15, 2019, following the resignation of founding CEO Josephine Wapakabulo after three years in the position.

Before her leadership role at the Uganda National Oil Company, Nabbanja held the position of Chief Operating Officer (Upstream) from November 2016 to August 2019. Her career began at the Petroleum Exploration and Production Department (PEPD) in the Uganda Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, where she became the first woman to hold the role of Senior Geologist. Nabbanja joined PEPD in 2000 after graduating from Makerere University, and over the years, she rose through the ranks, eventually serving as Acting Principal Geologist before transitioning to UNOC.

In her capacity as Senior Geologist, Nabbanja supervised a team responsible for reviewing technical proposals from oil companies and collecting data to estimate the country’s oil and gas reserves. Her expertise and leadership were recognized by the UNOC Board of Directors, who confirmed her as the substantive CEO in October 2019.

Beyond her professional achievements, Nabbanja is a married mother of three children, balancing her career with her family responsibilities.
