At 36 years old, South African winemaker Mbali Masike embarked on her entrepreneurial journey by founding Ngiyi Mbali Wines while still balancing a career as a marketing manager at a prominent insurance company. Despite initial hesitations, driven by her passion for wine since her 18th birthday, Mbali pursued her dream of entering the wine industry.
Securing mentorship from a fifth-generation South African winemaker was pivotal, enabling her to establish a family business featuring six distinct wine ranges. As the demand for South African wines continues to rise, Mbali’s venture has gained traction, attracting interest from international markets.
Continuing her mentorship journey, Mbali currently produces wine in her mentor’s vineyard as she works towards acquiring her own piece of land. Additionally, she is expanding her product offerings, with plans to introduce sparkling wine by the end of 2018 and diversify into food products such as chutneys and jams in the coming year.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Mbali cherishes her role as a mother to two boys, balancing her entrepreneurial pursuits with family responsibilities.
