Marie-Chantal Kaninda

Marie-Chantal Kaninda serves as the Vice-President of Corporate Affairs for Glencore in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kamoto Copper Company (KCC). With over 25 years of professional experience in the mining sector, she has worked with prominent international groups such as Ashanti Goldfields, AngloGold Ashanti, De Beers Group, and Rio Tinto, overseeing administration, communication, and external affairs in Central Africa and Communities in Africa.

Marie-Chantal holds a degree in economics from the University of Liège in Belgium and has made significant contributions to the mining industry. As the first woman to lead the World Diamond Council for two years, she has championed greater access to training for girls and women and advocated for their increased inclusion in the mining sector.

Married with two daughters, Marie-Chantal is deeply committed to empowering women and girls in the DRC. She serves as a mentor to young women entrepreneurs, founded the MCKM Foundation—a not-for-profit organization addressing girls’ education in the DRC—and sits on several boards of directors, including Standard Bank in the DRC. Marie-Chantal’s influential contributions have earned her recognition as one of the most influential women in the region for three consecutive years by Forbes Africa.
