Hadiza Bala Usman

Hadiza Bala Usman, the trailblazing Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), made history as the first woman to hold this position in the organization’s 63-year history. Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University and a postgraduate degree in Development Studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, she has exemplified leadership and excellence throughout her career.

Prior to her groundbreaking role at NPA, Bala Usman served in key positions, including the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and as Assistant to the Minister for project implementation for the Federal Capital Territory Administration. She further made history as the first female Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, leaving an indelible mark in the region.

Acknowledged for her outstanding achievements, Bala Usman has garnered accolades in governance, girl child education, and women’s empowerment. Currently, she holds the prestigious position of Vice President (African Region) for the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH), spearheading a visionary 25-year port development plan to position NPA at the forefront of the global maritime industry.

In addition to her professional achievements, Bala Usman balances her career with her role as a devoted mother of two boys. Additionally, she currently serves as the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, demonstrating her continued commitment to public service and national development.
