FAQs: Umi Mentorship Program

What is Umi all about?

Umi means ‘life’ or ‘giver of life’. As mothers, that is who we are.

Umi is a platform supporting mums from Africa with information, connection and community needed to take care of themselves and their little ones.

The community provides an atmosphere where mothers can work together to raise thorough and sound children and at the same time, have progressive careers and an all round balanced life.

What is the Umi Mentorship Program about?

The Umi Mentorship Program is one of our flagship products at Umi. It helps new mothers and mums of children below 3 years old become better versions of themselves as mothers, wives, partners and professionals by tapping into the wealth of knowledge, experiences and network of mothers who have walked this path of motherhood and have excelled at it.

We started the mentorship program in June 2023 for mothers interested in having successful careers without losing on the home front, and have paired mothers from 12 African countries (Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. in Nigeria, South Africa and the United Kingdom) with experienced mentors who help them in their motherhood and professional journeys.

Who are the mentors?

Umi mentors are experienced mums who are top professionals in their fields and have raised or still raising kids who are sound, healthy, wholesome and sane. You can read about some of them here.

How long is the mentorship program?

It runs for three months. The next cohort will run from February to April, 2025.

Is this a virtual program or do we have to meet somewhere?
