Nisreen Kuku
Tribute
Between formulating Sudan's cultural heritage through jewelry design and raising her daughter, Nisreen Kuku has crafted both precious metals and precious memories with the same attentive hands. We honour the traditional techniques preserved for both national identity and family stories, the contemporary adaptations that make ancient wisdom relevant to new generations, and the way she hallmarks every creation with authenticity and love – whether worn around necks or carried in hearts.
Profile
Nisreen Kuku is a distinguished jewelry designer and interior design engineer. She is the founder and owner of Kuku Gallery in Khartoum. Established in December 2018, Kuku Gallery is a fusion of African and Sudanese cultures, utilizing materials such as copper, brass, silver, ebony, and various gemstones. The gallery focuses on producing jewelry inspired by Sudanese culture, heritage, and history, reflecting Nisreen’s deep appreciation for her country’s diverse traditions. Born and raised in Omdurman, Sudan, Nisreen graduated from Omdurman Ahlia University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design. From an early age, she began collecting antique jewelry from the Omdurman old market and prominent antique sellers, which later inspired her work. She was the first female jewelry designer in Sudan, dating back to early 1996. In July 2022, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Sudan, Kuku was invited to L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts in Paris, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, for a series of classes and guided tours by historians at institutions like the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Musée du Louvre. This opportunity showcased her talent on a global platform and highlighted the rich cultural narratives embedded in her designs. She is a proud girl mom.
