Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba is the Permanent Secretary and Paymaster General at the Ministry of Finance and Planning in Tanzania, a historic appointment as the first woman to hold this position. She assumed this role in January 2023, where she oversees the country’s financial and economic operations, ensuring effective public financial management. Prior to this, she made significant contributions as the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Tanzania from 2011 to 2023, where she played a crucial role in shaping Tanzania’s monetary policies and financial system. Dr. Mwamba holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Nottingham and has worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam. Her academic background complements her experience in public service, where she has specialized in financial inclusion, microeconomics, and policy analysis. In addition to her leadership in government, she has served on various boards, including the Institute of Finance Management Governing Board and the Non-Government Organizations Coordination Board. Dr. Mwamba is married and the mother of three children.
